On this day in 1876, 100 years after the Declaration of Independence, with patent number 174,465, the world was given the telephone and the first call was made.

Communication has come a long, long way. Thanks, Alexander Graham Bell, for the tinkering, dedication and imagination that led to the invention of the telephone. When you take a look back at the many tools we’ve used to convey a simple message like, “Mr. Watson, come here – I want to see you,” you can see the evolution of humanity.

It took us awhile to get going, but the dawn of modern communication – telecommunication – started with Alexander Graham Bell and the first telephone call. And for that we say, “thank you!”
