Next week, FC Kansas City, Kansas City’s professional women’s soccer team, is hosting a HopeLine phone drive. The team encourages fans to join them in raising awareness and resources for domestic violence victims.

Verizon and FC Kansas City have teamed up to help break the cycle of domestic violence in Kansas City and work to provide help for victims in need. At the FC Kansas City game against the Portland Thorns FC on Wednesday, August 12, we encourage fans to bring their no-longer used cell phones to the game for donation to domestic violence shelters through Verizon’s HopeLine program.

Donation boxes will be located at both entrances to the field for fans to drop off devices and accessories. Once they’re donated, devices are reset, equipped with text messages and minutes and donated to domestic violence shelters as a vital resource for those in need.

“We are proud to partner with Verizon to raise awareness about the problem of domestic violence,” said FC Kansas City Vice President of Business Operations Scott Levinson. “As a professional women’s soccer team, it is very important to us as an organization to support the efforts of HopeLine to empower victims and survivors.”

FC Kansas City and Verizon are also joining forces to recognize fans for supporting this important cause. When fans donate a device or accessory at the gate, they’ll receive a raffle ticket, entering them for a chance to win exciting tech prizes – a set of yurbuds sport headphones, a Microsoft Lumia 735 smartphone or an HTC One M9 smartphone. One grand prize winner will receive an LG G4 smartphone and an autographed FC Kansas City soccer ball.

We also encourage fans attending the Wednesday, August 12 game to join the conversation about breaking the cycle of domestic violence online. Fans can tweet at players and the team using the hashtag #FCKCHopeLine and engage with @HopeLineVerizon on Twitter.

Verizon Wireless has a long history of supporting domestic violence awareness, both locally and nationally, and this is just another way we work to bring light to this issue that affects nearly one in four women, one in seven men and more than 3 million children in the United States.

If you're in the area, we hope to see you at the game! Need tickets? Visit http://www.fckansascity.com/tickets/ for more information.
