Got questions?
We've got
answers.

Why do I have to call Verizon?

We are updating our services in your area from our older copper network to our newer, more reliable fiber-optic technology. After the migration, we will no longer provide service in your area over the copper network. Our fiber-optic network allows us to provide higher quality services using a more reliable technology.

Will I have to change my current service, and will the price increase?

The upgrade to fiber-optic technology, which will be performed at no cost to you, will give you access to the same Verizon voice service you currently have at the same price. Customers with our High Speed Internet service who upgrade to fiber will be offered our Fios Internet product at a special rate.

How do I arrange to move my service to the Verizon fiber-optic network?

Please sign in now to schedule your appointment online to move your service.

Or call 1.877.439.7442.

What happens if I do not schedule an appointment?

Your Verizon services will be suspended if you do not allow Verizon reasonable access to your premises to install, maintain, or replace equipment and facilities that will enable us to move your service to our fiber-optic facilities. Once your service is suspended, you will only be able to call 9-1-1 and our customer service number, which is 1.800.VERIZON (1.800.837.4966). Approximately 14 days after being suspended, Verizon service at your address will be disconnected unless you allow us to move your service to our fiber-optic facilities.

Will I be charged for the fiber installation or the new equipment?

There is no charge for the fiber extension to your home, nor is there a charge for any necessary equipment to update your Verizon telephone service to fiber. For High Speed Internet customers, the product you currently have is not available on fiber, but Verizon can provide you with our significantly faster Fios Internet at a special rate, which may be lower or higher than what you are currently paying. If you choose to purchase Fios Internet or Fios TV, you will be billed accordingly for the services you select.

What is the installation process?

You will need to schedule an installation appointment at a time when someone 18 years or older will be home. You will also need to provide access to a grounded electrical outlet, which we need to power the equipment. We will work with you to identify a convenient installation date. On the day of installation, our technician will install the equipment and ensure that your voice service is working properly with your equipment. If you choose to subscribe to new services available on fiber such as Fios Internet or Fios TV, the technician will provide professional installation of those services as well. The technician will address any questions at the time of installation.

What equipment is needed in order for me to upgrade to fiber?

We will extend the fiber-optic facilities to your home, and our technician will assess the placement of equipment to be installed as it will vary depending on the type of home you live in. The technician will consult with you on the placement of the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and backup power unit for voice service at your home, as it may be mounted in a few different ways or placed on the desktop. We will use the existing wiring in your home, and you will be able to use your existing telephones.

What is the battery backup?

We will provide you with a backup battery device at no charge that will power your voice service in the event of a power outage, allowing you to make and receive calls, including to 911, on your corded telephones. For almost all residential customers, we can provide a battery backup device that can provide standby service for up to 24 hours using standard D-cell batteries. In the event of a prolonged power outage, you can simply replace the D-cell batteries for additional backup power. (Cordless phones, alarm equipment, or other devices that require their own separate source of electricity to operate will not be powered by the backup battery device.)

What about 911 for emergencies?

There will be no changes to the 911 emergency services as a result of upgrading to our fiber network. In the event of an extended power outage that fully depletes battery power in the backup power unit, please put in a set of new batteries in order to place telephone calls, including 911 calls, from a corded telephone handset. Or you can use an alternative such as a cell phone to dial 911.

I'm not sure I want Fios. What are my alternatives?

This is not Fios voice service. It is your existing voice service, only provided over fiber instead of copper, at the same price, terms, and conditions. Existing devices that use your current copper voice line(s) such as fax machines, security alarms, and medical monitoring equipment are fully compatible with voice service over fiber. During this transition to fiber, if you experience a service outage, we will repair your service on fiber.

For High Speed Internet customers, the product you currently have is not available on fiber, but Verizon can provide you with a Fios Internet product that is significantly faster at a special rate. In some cases, this price may be lower or higher than what you currently pay. If you would like to speak with a representative about any of our Fios products, please call us at 1.877.439.7442.

What if there is a medical emergency in my home?

If you or anyone presently and normally living in your home is seriously ill, we will not suspend your telephone service for up to 30 days during such illness, provided that you have a physician certify to Verizon by phone or in writing that such an illness exists and that the ill person will be endangered if telephone service is stopped. If verification of illness is made verbally, a written confirmation from the certifying physician may also be required. To accommodate this arrangement you must contact Verizon. Providing a physician certification of illness will not prevent suspension and termination of your telephone service after the expiration of the allowed medical emergency period. To retain Verizon telephone service after the expiration of the allowed medical emergency period, YOU MUST CONTACT VERIZON at 1.877.439.7442 to arrange to transition your service to a fiber-optic line.

What if I change providers?

Providers using Verizon's copper networks have been notified regarding copper-to-fiber transition and will also be required to migrate to Verizon's fiber network. You may be able to move (or “port”) your number to a new provider that uses its own network and facilities.

Got questions?
We've got
answers.

What is the impact of retiring the Verizon copper network to me and my tenants?

Verizon currently brings wireline voice and data services to your premise over traditional copper cables.

We have begun updating our network to fiber-optic facilities in your area and will be retiring the copper that serves your building. Once we have approved plans for your property, we will provide notice to Verizon customers in your property, advising them of the fiber upgrade. If you do not allow Verizon to access your property to perform the fiber update, ultimately all Verizon services provided over copper wires (voice and data as well as alarm, elevator, and office lines) will be discontinued as part of Verizon's copper retirement plans.

When is this all going to happen? If it won't take place for some time, why do I need to sign something now?

We are in the planning stages for your property, and we need to complete your property's fiber update now, in order to provide you with service options as soon as our plans for copper retirement are finalized.

Our ability to offer service options is contingent on our ability to gain access to your property to perform the fiber update.

What is the cost to me (both decision makers and tenants) and how will this impact my billing?

If you currently subscribe to voice service from Verizon, we can transfer your service from copper to fiber at no cost to you. This transfer will not result in any change to the voice service that you currently receive from Verizon. You may continue to subscribe to the same voice service at the same price, terms, and conditions. In addition, any existing devices that rely on your current voice service such as fax machines, medical devices, or security alarms connected to a central station are fully compatible with voice service over fiber.

If you subscribe to our High Speed Internet service, the migration to fiber will require a change because that service is not available on our fiber facilities. The Internet access service that we offer on fiber is Fios Internet and is available at significantly faster speeds than High Speed Internet. We will offer the service at a special rate for customers who migrate from copper to fiber facilities as a result of the retirement of our copper facilities. In some cases, this price may be lower or higher than what is currently paid for Internet access. Click on one of the below links to learn more about Fios:

What is a site survey and why do we need to do one? Will it cost anything?

After you agree to the fiber update, we will schedule a visit to walk through your property. This initial site survey visit is needed to develop an installation plan based on the unique layout of your property.

We will work with you to finalize the installation design in a document that will grant Verizon permission to perform the fiber update in your property.

After the walk-through visit, you will have an opportunity to review and approve the installation plan before work begins.

There is no cost associated with the site survey or the fiber update.

We don't have any lines with Verizon; why are you contacting me?

All services provided to your tenants and your property over Verizon copper wires (voice and data services as well as alarm, elevator, and office lines) are affected by Verizon's copper retirement project. This also includes services provided through other providers using Verizon's copper lines.

I think we already have fiber; why are you contacting me?

It is possible that the fiber in your property is not Verizon fiber. It is also possible that the fiber previously placed by Verizon in your property was placed for a different purpose. The fiber update needed at this time entails placing fiber equipment to accommodate all units in your property, as well as running fiber-optic wiring. The initial site survey will help us determine what fiber may already exist at your property.

What's the direct impact to me and my tenants?

If you do not allow Verizon to access your property to perform the fiber update, then all services provided to your tenants and your property over Verizon copper wires (voice and data as well as alarm, elevator, and office lines) will be discontinued as part Verizon's Copper retirement plans.

Why fiber?

Reliability: fiber-optics use light to transmit signals and are less vulnerable to weather and interference, giving you 99.9% network reliability.

Future-proof: only a 100% fiber-optic connection is designed to meet today's needs and the flexibility to handle the demands of tomorrow's “next big thing.” Copper wires were made to support rotary phones, not the technology of the future.

Broadband availability influences rental and home ownership decisions.

Fiber technology and Fios will differentiate your property.

Your property's fiber update is free! Verizon will cover all installation expenses.

What else aren't you telling me/what's the fine print?

We are attempting to update our facilities in your property and other properties in your community, in an effort to provide more reliable service options to our customers. This is not a sales attempt.

Why do you need to access all the units?

The property fiber update entails placing fiber equipment to accommodate all units in your property, as well as running fiber-optic wiring. This enables the ability to provide service to any tenant in your property who chooses to order Verizon services.

How can I schedule an appointment?

After your property manager has provided us permission to update the facilities to your property and we have updated our network to your building, Verizon will contact you to schedule an appointment that is convenient for you. You may also call us at 1.844.VzFiber (1.844.893.4237) if you have any questions.

Is the installation process complicated? What equipment is needed in order for me to upgrade to the fiber-optic facilities?

Our goal is to make this as easy as possible. We will provide and install all the required equipment, and use the existing wiring at your home to connect to your phones. We will also provide a backup battery for voice service. Our technician will answer any questions you have and ensure everything is working properly before he or she leaves.

Will my service or rates change as a result of the fiber update?

The upgrade to fiber-optic technology, which will be performed at no cost to you, will give you access to the same Verizon voice service you currently have at the same price. Customers with our High Speed Internet service who upgrade to fiber will be offered our Fios Internet product at a special rate.

What is the backup battery for customers?

We will provide you with a backup battery device at no charge that will power your voice service in the event of a power outage, allowing you to make and receive calls, including to 911, on your corded telephones. For most customers, we can provide a battery backup device that can provide standby service for 8-24 hours using either a 12v battery or standard D cell batteries, depending on the type of Verizon equipment installed at your location. At the time of the installation, the technician will provide you with details on the specific backup power options available for your location. (Cordless phones, alarm equipment, or other devices that require their own separate source of electricity to operate will not be powered by the backup battery device.)

What if I change providers?

Providers using Verizon's copper facilities have been notified regarding the copper-to-fiber transition and will also be required to migrate to Verizon's fiber-optic facilities. You may transfer (or “port”) your telephone number to an alternate voice service provider who does not rely on Verizon's existing copper network.

1Speeds up to 940 Mbps download and 880 Mbps upload avail. in select areas of NY; NJ; Philadelphia, PA; Boston, MA; Providence, RI; Washington, DC; and Norfolk and Richmond, VA. Symmetrical speeds up to 500/500 Mbps avail. in other Fios areas.

Why did I receive this letter about a fiber update?

Verizon is in the process of updating our network in your area to more reliable and higher quality fiber-optic technology. In order to update your Verizon services to fiber, Verizon must first get permission from your property owner or manager to access your building. If your property manager denies us access, all Verizon services provided to you and others in your building will be discontinued.

What am I supposed to do?

Please don’t risk losing your current Verizon services! Ask your property manager to grant us access to your building so we can install fiber-optics.

When will the fiber installation be done

Please sign in now to schedule your appointment online to move your service.

Or call 1.877.439.7442.

What happens if I do not schedule an appointment?

After your property manager has provided us access permission to your building, we will work with your property manager to define the timeline for the fiber installation to your property to minimize any inconvenience. Verizon will then contact you to schedule an appointment at a time that is convenient for you. You may also call us at 1.844.Vzfiber (1.844.893.4237) for any questions.

Will this fiber update affect my current TV and/or Internet subscriptions with another provider?

  •

Your current plans with other TV and/or Internet providers will not be affected, unless your provider uses Verizon facilities to provide you service. Once the update is complete, you will be eligible to purchase Fios TV and/or Internet. Click one of the below links to learn more about Fios.

If my service will be terminated, how much time will I have before you disconnect my service?

If for any reason we are unable to provide fiber to your building, your service with Verizon will be discontinued. For each property, we work closely with your building manager and also send multiple forms of communication to each tenant long before any disruption to service so that you'll have plenty of time to make alternate service arrangements.

On behalf of my elderly parent, what do you need me to do if their phone is in an assisted living facility?

We're more than happy to speak directly with a caregiver, family member, or the living center manager to schedule an appointment and make this process as easy and convenient as possible for our customers who need assistance. A member of our expert team will call you to answer any questions and to help you through the process.

Why fiber-optics?

Fiber-optic facilities provide bandwidth to meet today's digital demands and the possibilities of tomorrow. And the quality, performance, and reliability that fiber-optics delivers for voice and other services are far superior to copper.

I don’t want fiber-optics. What are my alternatives?

After we retire copper facilities in your area, we will only provide service over fiber-optics. So in order to continue receiving Verizon services, you will have to migrate to our fiber facilities.

What if my property manager does not give permission to Verizon to update the facilities to my property?

If your property manager will not allow Verizon to update its facilities to fiber, Verizon will have to discontinue providing services to you and you will need to make arrangements with an alternate provider.

How can I schedule an appointment?

After your property manager has provided us permission to update the facilities to your property and we have updated our network to your building, Verizon will contact you to schedule an appointment that is convenient for you.
