OMAHA, NE - In response to the severe storms and deadly tornadoes this past weekend, Verizon is donating $20,000 to the American Red Cross to aid in relief efforts in Nebraska and Iowa.

“Verizon is dedicated to supporting the communities impacted by tornadoes over the weekend,” said Matthew Carr, Mountain Market President at Verizon. “By partnering with the Red Cross, we know people in these areas will receive the resources they need to help recover from these storms quickly.”

When the storms rolled in, the network team monitored conditions to ensure that connectivity was not interrupted. The Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team also deployed a SPOT or satellite picocell on a trailer in Minden, Iowa. The SPOT provided first responders with mission-critical communications support during emergency response operations. The network is fully functional and crews have restored impacted sites.

“The devastation left behind by last week’s storms is incredible,” said Jill Orton, Red Cross Regional CEO. “Our hearts go out to the residents in the affected communities and our gratitude goes out to all who are supporting our efforts to help those in need. Our work following disasters like this happens because of the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers. This will be a long disaster response and we are grateful for the support we are seeing from our donors, partners and the community.”

Verizon remains committed to keeping communities connected, especially during emergencies and disaster relief efforts.
