Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers globally. Millions of customers—including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises and leading government agencies—are using AWS to lower costs, become more agile and innovate faster.
Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Wavelength leverages the MEC-optimized AWS infrastructure offering. Applications are deployed to Wavelength Zones—AWS infrastructure deployments that embed AWS compute and storage services at the edge of the Verizon 5G network—and seamlessly access AWS services in the region. This reduces the extra network hops to the internet, avoiding a transit penalty, to help ensure substantial enhancements in application performance and end-user quality of experience. By using Verizon’s ultrafast, low-latency 5G Ultra Wideband* network with AWS’ industry-leading cloud services, Verizon and AWS are enabling the creation and delivery of next-generation applications and solutions.
Developers will be able to connect to the Verizon 5G network using a new virtual private cloud (VPC) gateway called Carrier Gateway. This enables them to attach Verizon-provided public IP addresses to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances.
MEC is all about positioning compute, storage and related infrastructure closer to the end user to provide bandwidth- and latency-optimized access. Verizon is building out Service Access Points (SAPs) across its footprint to facilitate the placement of MEC elements.
In addition, Verizon’s vision for building out fiber, small-cell technology and other network densification efforts have put it at the forefront of meeting next-generation application requirements. By making the 5G Edge platform available to developers, we can unlock new business and consumer use cases that were previously impossible due to technology limitations. 5G Edge should eventually support applications that utilize real-time data, low latency, high throughput and massive numbers of connected devices and simultaneous users.
Lastly, combining the capabilities of these two industry-leading brands into a common platform improves our ability to provide customers with world-class experiences and services.

Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Wavelength allows you to use the same AWS application programming interfaces (APIs), tools and functionality you use today. You can then seamlessly connect back to your application and the full range of cloud services with one or more AWS Wavelength Zones as part of your VPC. Whether you use a single AWS Wavelength Zone to target a specific area or opt to deploy multiple Wavelength Zones over a wider area, you gain low latency and enhanced application performance.
